CONFESSIONS  Saturday 11  -  12

Walsingham Society:  Rosary & Mass at Good Shepherd Church on this coming Thursday at 7.15pm. Everyone is most welcome to this mass and prayers of devotion.

Please keep in your prayers a number of people who have died recently: Anna Cumin, Lorraine Barlow, Catherine Murphy and Richard McCarthy. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Congratulations to the pupils and staff and parents at Our Lady & St John’s RC High School for their excellent GCSE Results.  They have done really well  -  and in spite of all the controversy about the English exams  - their English results actually went up against all the trends.  I heard a certain Chris Woodhead, and ex chief Ofsted inspector, speaking on the radio on Thursday about the English results and GCSE results in general  -  I nearly ripped the radio out I was so annoyed. Over the last 10 years or so, teachers, pupils, parents and schools have introduced so many new strategies and hard work to improve their pupils for exams and have raised results. They all deserve great praise for their untiring efforts and the extra hours they put in. To hear that man giving no credit to schools was disgraceful and insulting  -  governments say they want to raise standards and now they are forcing results downward!!

Well done pupils and staff.

Callum Brown, who has been living here with us at St Alban’s, on and off, for the last couple of years, will begin full time training for the priesthood at Oscott College Seminary in Birmingham next week. It is wonderful for the parish to be part of the ‘training and development’ of a new priest. There are not too many into the pipeline!! So, we have got to look after them. He did a degree at Lancaster and no doubt caries the usual ‘University debts’ and I doubt if the diocese give him much! So, I thought it would be kind to pop the St Alban’s buckets nest weekend for him. I realise that times is hard for everyone, but if you could spare a wee gift for him, I am sure it would be a really good help. He has made ‘his home here’ so he is ‘family’. Many thanks in advance.

WASTE PAPER  Many thanks to all who bring in Waste Paper :  You can bring it in Carrier bags / melon type boxes / strong cardboard boxes  etc….   The Church is usually open from around 8 am to 5 pm in the evening  (Side Door  - i.e. the bottom one near the presbytery)

To celebrate the Year of Faith which begins in September, the deanery proposes to celebrate the roots of our Faith witnessed by the Lancashire Martyrs. It will focus on our patron St. John Southworth, an icon of whom will be used in major celebrations and will tour all parish churches. There are many other saints and martyrs from our area. We are looking for volunteers to organise this venture and volunteers to research the information

The new board next to the Garden of Remembrance unfortunately hasn’t been completed  by the High School before they broke up. So it will be a while before it appears with all the plaques on it. Sorry.

Our Lady’s Chapel is getting closer to being restored. We found that we had to take more plaster off the bottom wall, so, more expense, but it will be repainted as soon as the plaster dries out! Any contributions will be gladly accepted!! God bless you all.  Many thanks to Bill Shaw who has and will again paint the Chapel in ‘Our Lady blue’ – you also should get a Gold Medal…. Well 2 now !!!

............. in Cambodia that is. There they are in the middle of the rainy season, but by the end of November it should be over and the builders out there should be able to begin to build the extension of our school, ‘New Bonney’s’ in Siem Reap. They intend to build an extra classroom and a medical room which can be used by the village community. Unfortunately we still need some funds to pay for the whole project. To help us achieve this we are once again running the Charity Shop at 65 King William Street, opposite the Town Hall for the week

13th    to the  20th  of October and are now in the process of collecting goods for sale. We need clean winter clothes and children’s clothing, toys, bric-a-brac, small electrical items which we will have tasted. We DO NOT want large appliances or furniture. If you have any of the required goods please bring them to the back of church in the coming weeks.

Soon we will be asking for volunteers to help run the shop, so please keep your eyes open for the rota going up on the notice board at the back of church. Many thanks for your continued support.

Father:  The Lord be with you.      Our New Response:  AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT

The New I Confess                           I confess to almighty God

And to you, my brothers and sisters,

That I have greatly sinned,

In my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done

And in what I have failed to do,

Through my fault, through my fault

Through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, All the angels and saints,

And you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord my God

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,  you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,  in the glory of God the Father. Amen

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks
to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just

Priest: The mystery of faith.

A – We proclaim your death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

PRAYER FOR PEACE after the Our FatherLord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles, Peace I leave you,  my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.  Who live and reign for ever and ever.

All: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

The Lord be with you    Response:    AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT
