CONFESSIONS  Saturday 11  -  12

Today we welcome ‘BETHLEHEM ART’ to our parish. The Olive Wood carvings are created by the Christian people living in the area around Bethlehem. This craft has been handed down through generations of families and has been one of the only sources of income for the Christian families in that part of the world where the feet of the Lord once trod.

The Christian people in Israel have to live under the most difficult of conditions. They are surrounded by Jewish and Moslem neighbours who ‘squeeze’ them from both sides. Many of the Christian people have Arabic roots, so they have had the thin end of wedge from all their neighbours.

The Olive Wood carvers have been one of the few financial outlets and blessings that the community has had for many years. We have sold these types of products here at St Alban’s for a number of years and it will be lovely to see and hear from them  - first hand  -   this weekend.

CAFOD  ---  The Government’s deadline for ‘Doubling your Money’ is soon to end:  the 14th may is the final day. So far parishioners have been tremendously generous to Cafod from the beginning of Lent onwards. So this is the last BIG PUSH for CAFOD. Please pop one last gift into a Cafod envelope this weekend; sign the Gift Aid bit on the back and pop it into the collection plate or hand it in. Cafod are amazed at how much has been contributed nationally and we here at St Alban’s & Good Shepherd have done really well. Many thanks

SUNDAY 27TH is Pentecost Sunday and we will be having the Sacrament of Confirmation celebrated for the children of Year 3 at the 11 15 Mass: this will be a simple celebration during the mass which we will make a ‘Family Mass’.

The Eucharistic Congress Bell  Tuesday 22nd May. Our Diocese of Salford is hosting the International Eucharistic Congress Bell (just for a week) : the Bell will be rung by the Pope to open the Congress in Dublin in June. The BELL is only going to a few places in the Diocese and one of them is St Alban’s Church. We are holding a Service on Tuesday 22nd May at 7.00 pm.   It is a beautiful, yet simple service of prayer and praise. Please pop the date into your diaries and come along to pray for the Congress and the special place in it that St Alban’s has been granted by the privilege of ‘hosting the BELL

Our days in Lourdes were wonderful once again. They were very wet  - plenty of Lourdes water from above  -  and not very Many ‘rainbows’ this year either!  The children joined in together in the prayers, services, masses and fun. It was never going to be easy this year  -  but the youngsters came up trumps   -  and the helpers had a magnificent time also. We managed to get into the Grotto more frequently this year and were able to light more candles, in spite of the rain! Your prayers, petitions and intentions went via our Lady to Almighty God and I know we all have been blessed by God this year once again.

We have brought Lourdes water back with us and it has been popped into bottle for you  - the bottles have shrunk this year!!  Our suppliers  -- not me  -  the larger ones aren’t made any more. Signs of the times!  Many thanks to everyone once more.

NEW REPONSES AT MASS

Father:  The Lord be with you.      Our New Response:  AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT

The New I Confess                           I confess to almighty God

And to you, my brothers and sisters,

That I have greatly sinned,

In my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done

And in what I have failed to do,

Through my fault, through my fault

Through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, All the angels and saints,

And you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord my God

THE GLORIA

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,  you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,  in the glory of God the Father. Amen
.

THE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen
.

SANCTUS

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks
to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just

Priest: The mystery of faith.

People:
A – We proclaim your death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

PRAYER FOR PEACE after the Our FatherLord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles, Peace I leave you,  my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.  Who live and reign for ever and ever.

LAMB OF GOD

All: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

The Lord be with you    Response:    AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT
