WELCOME TO THE SEASON OF ADVENT

Here is today   -  John the Baptist -  we light the second Advent Candle for him today. The First Candle represents all the Old Testament Prophets who preached a message of repentance, dedication to God and gradually they began to speak about the ‘one who is to come’  -  the title ‘Messiah’ evolved. The Anointed one who we now believe is Jesus Christ the second person of the Blessed Trinity  -  God made man  -- born in Bethlehem.

As they were related I have often wondered if they ever met before that amazing day at the River Jordan but you get the impression that they hadn’t, which always seemed strange to me. Anyway, we are called to think that if John the Baptist didn’t feel worthy to undo Jesus’ sandal – then it calls us to straighten out our lives – as we prepare for the feast of the Good Lord’s birth.

During Advent we will have our Early Friday Morning Mass at 7.30 am.

We will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 11 to 12 noon on a Saturday morning.

Advent reminds of the need for giving and the CAFOD Envelopes litter church. You can put money in them and any ‘Old Gold or Silver bits of redundant jewellery. People have given lots of small pieces and it has been turned into over  £ 462 So it has been a great source of income for Cafod  - many thanks.

NEW TARMAC DRIVEWAY:   Many thanks to J & R Moran for a fantastic job on the Church drive. They did the work at a price that reflected a long connection with St Alban’s and we should all be very grateful  -  I certainly am!!   Open to contributions from one and all as always. We have had Scaffolding up the cark park side of Church for the last week and the holes and gaps in the roof have been sorted out. So the leaking in up past the top Confessional box on the right hand side will now be fixed. This ‘old girl’ of a church will always take plenty of upkeep  -  but God is good and so are you. Many thanks.

NEW REPONSES AT MASS

Father:  The Lord be with you.      Our New Response:  AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT

The New I Confess                           I confess to almighty God

And to you, my brothers and sisters,

That I have greatly sinned,

In my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done

And in what I have failed to do,

Through my fault, through my fault

Through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, All the angels and saints,

And you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord my God

THE GLORIA

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,  you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,  in the glory of God the Father. Amen
.

THE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen
.

SANCTUS

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

PRAYER FOR PEACE after the Our FatherLord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles, Peace I leave you,  my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.  Who live and reign for ever and ever.

LAMB OF GOD

that you should enter under my roof,

and my soul shall be healed.
