CAFOD & WASTE PAPER   We collect waste paper here at St Alban’s and it all adds up in pound weight and in pennies! It is a very simple way of recycling as well. So, please try to remember to bring any waste paper to church when ever you come. Our Church (the bottom SIDE DOOR) is always open during the week from about 8am till around 5 in the evening  -  so you can bring it along during the day.

CHURCH DOOR OPEN PRAYER: So along with bring in waste paper the bottom door of Church is open during the day and this gives us an opportunity to come and say a prayer and light a candle. I have always felt that the Church should be an “open Place”  -  this has its security risks – but I am a firm believer that the best Security is the presence of people popping in and out during the day and saying a prayer: your presence will be the greatest deterrent to anyone who would do our beloved church any harm.

DIVIDE AND CONQUER: Was a phrase coined to help in the Cleaning and care of our Church here at St Alban’s. One or two of our helpers have been bitten with bug ‘Age’ and ‘Bad Backs’ ………..  So we are in great need of a few more sturdy volunteers to help with the Church Cleaning.

This can take place on a ‘When you can do it basis’  -  or on a Thursday or Friday Morning. We have the brushes etc.. We just need some more regular help… please… please.. Ask Fr Jude for more info or just turn up !!  Thanks We have had a few extra’s and more would be fantastic !!

We will have a Family Mass on the 11th of September with our young people leading us in prayer. After Mass we will have a FUN DAY AFTERNOON in the Social Centre. Our HCPT Lourdes people are organising this. There will be lots of little Money Spinners  --  HOOK A DUCK /  CHOCOLATE TOMBOLA / Spinning Wheel /  PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT to mention but a few. It will be a fun packed Family afternoon and I Hope you can come along – whatever your age – and bring your friends along too!

SOCIAL EVENING IN OUR PARISH CENTRE:  the 130 Club Bash  This will take place on Sunday 28th August – in 2 weeks time:  Buffet /  Raffle  /  Draws & Bingo and a fine Artist a Duo called Chaser”.

QUIZ NIGHT  back in  business on Wednesday evening in the Social Centre:  begins at 9.30pm with Fr Jude asking the Questions: this is a fun quiz / friendly nature  - no big prizes  - only the prize of participation and a chance to win – the Honour of Winning. £1 a team and all the proceeds help with our Lourdes Children Funds. Make a wee team and join the fun.  This is not Brain of Britain stuff.

I BELIEVE, ACTION CAMBODIA TODAY.

As schools and universities here and in and in Cambodia are enjoying their summer holidays we are preparing for the start of the new school year in September. We are currently supporting four students through university. Each one is sponsored by a family or individual from St. Alban’s and Good Shepherd. For those sponsors who pay annually this is the time to pay your fees to the charity.

Fr. Greg has asked if we could sponsor a fifth student  through university  for the next four years. This student is a young lady called Sok Him, and she will be doing a course on ‘Management’. She comes from a poor farming family that cannot afford to support her financially through university. Fr. Greg says that “she is a good student and has spirit to help other people.” She has recently been living in the Jesuit hostel in Banteay Meanchey Province. The cost of her fees for each of the next four years is £320. If anyone would like to sponsor Sok Him please give your name to Fr. Jude and one of the committee will be in touch with you soon. If we do not find a sponsor then her fees will be provided directly from our funds. She will not lose out. If you have bought a Bike Scholarship in the last few months then that money has been sent to Cambodia this last week. Twenty-five pupils will be able to attend secondary school from September onwards because of your kindness.

We are also paying for the publication of two picture story books. This is part of a much bigger programme to enable adults and children to read and learn about issues affecting their lives. Many adults still have a great deal to learn because they missed out on a formal education as their childhoods were destroyed by the Khymer Rouge.

We are planning a series of events for the autumn, but if you, possibly with a group of friends , have the expertise, desire and time to organise an event in the future for our charity then please feel free to do so. We would greatly appreciate your involvement.

One event we have already planned for September is a ‘Hoe-Down’ to be held on Saturday, 24th September in the Good Shepherd Hall. It starts at 8.00pm and finishes around 11.00pm. Tickets are £5 per person and this includes the potato pie supper. As there is no licence at the Good Shepherd those going are asked to bring their own drinks for the evening. Tickets are available from both churches. Should be a great night!

REPOSITORY STALL:  Eileen Marsden was the key person in this and has moved to the Midlands, so…. We have got some good folk who are doing all sorts to keep it going… but.. we caoul do with one or possibly 2 people who I need to keep a check on the cards stock every now and then and do some reordering.. not a massive task, but it does need doing: it can be done in your own time and access is easily organised. HELP ANYONE ? Thanks

THE LEGION OF MARY  WOULD LIKE TO RECRUIT NEW MEMBERS. The organisation is open to any Catholic men and women. The Legion meet as a group once a week to pray together, to allocate work to be completed during the week and to report on work previously done. Our work consists in visiting the sick and housebound and those in retirement and nursing homes and in hospital. We always visit in pairs. We also like to support the parish priest in any ventures that may increase the spiritual life of a parish. It only takes 2 hours a week of your time; one hour for the meeting and another hour for the visiting or work allocated. Please contact  Margaret  601678   Peter Costello on 262952 /Stella  661503  or Joan on 886033.

This is the way that we will say the I confess together when the new translation comes

I confess to almighty God

And to you, my brothers and sisters,

That I have greatly sinned,

In my thoughts and in my words,

In what I have done

And in what I have failed to do,

Through my fault, through my fault

Through my most gervious fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin

All the angels and saints,

And you, my brothers and sisters  to pray for me to the Lord my God   BOLD ITALICALS ARE THE LITTLE CHANGES.
