I am sure we are all aware of the devastation occurring in the ‘Horn of Africa’. We all know that the politics in Somalia and the war torn troubles in the South of Sudan add greatly to the famine – but the human cost is spiralling out of control.

CAFOD works in some parts of the areas and is one of the major Aid Agencies in the region.

If you can spare anything, Today we will have a BUCKET COLLECTION after Mass for the Work CAFOD is doing in this devastated part of the world. We also have the CAFOD GREEN ENVELOPES in the Church Benches. God bless you and many thanks:

CHARITY COFFEE MORNING Next Sunday 7th August will be for Father Fred and the widows he looks after in Kenya. This will take place in the Parish Social Centre after the 2 Sunday morning Masses.

Please do pop in if you can spare a few minutes. There will be a Tombola and refreshments. Oh Yes: we are short of a few Tombola Prizes – so if you have one or two to spare / can you drop them off at the Presbytery during the week. Many thanks.

DIVIDE AND CONQUER:: Was a phrse coined to help in the Cleaning and care of our Church here at St Alban’s. One or two of our helpers have been bitten with bug ‘Age’ and ‘Bad Backs’ ………..  so we are in great need of a few more sturdy volunteers to help with the Church Cleaning.

This can take place on a ‘When you can do it basis’  -  or on a Thursday or Friday Morning. We have the brushes etc.. we just need some more regular help… please… please.. ask Fr Jude for more info

I am in the process of getting a large stainless steel board to put along side our Garden of Remembrance. We will be able to affix the plaques on it at last. This is being manufactured at our High School  - unfortunately it isn’t ready before the holidays – so we will have to wait till September for its completion. I am sure it will be worth the wait.

It is with great sadness that I am hearing that the Church Action which includes the Furniture store will be closing down soon. St Alban’s and the parishioners have been great supporters of this for many years.

It provides a caring service for many people who find themselves at their wits end and desperate. It received funding from the Council that helped it pay its way  -  now with cuts across the board it will have to close.

It provides opportunities for lots of young lads to develop a trade; it help to save the council & pole a fortune in recycling as the store pick up unwanted furniture and pass it on. It must save the community a vast amount of money because they receive the furniture for a nominal sum. BUT mostly for the care it gives to people and them seeing the car of the Churches in Blackburn acting together. Surely we can put some pressure on the Council to take another look at this budget cut and save the Store so if you haven’t already done so  .PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION AT THE DOORS OF CHURCH

CHARITY STALL OUTSIDE THE SOCIAL CENTRE :  During the summer we are going to hold a series of small Sunday

Charity mornings just outside the Club. The club will be open as well and tea & biscuits (and anything stronger from the bar) will be available. We are in need of a few hearty souls who can help the small team running this venture. Please have a word with Bob Turner  (or myself) and I will put you in touch with Bob. Just about 4 or 5 Sunday mornings during the summer months.

RED MISSION BOXES It is the time in the year when they need to be brought to Church and replaced. So if you have one – please bring it to the Sacristy and we will swap it for an empty one

As are any Euros that find there way onto the collection plate !!

We also like to support the parish priest in any ventures that may increase the spiritual life of a parish. It only takes 2 hours a week of your time; one hour for the meeting and another hour for the visiting or work allocated. Please contact  Margaret  601678   Peter Costello on 262952 /Stella  661503  or Joan on 886033.

Many thanks for reading this   // thinking about it and especially if it leads to a phone call and possible membership.   Fr Jude

This is the way that we will say the I confess together when the new translation comes

I confess to almighty God

And to you, my brothers and sisters,

That I have greatly sinned,

In my thoughts and in my words,

In what I have done

And in what I have failed to do,

Through my fault, through my fault

Through my most gervious fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin

All the angels and saints,

And you, my brothers and sisters

to pray for me to the Lord my God.
