QUIZ MONEY SENT TO FATHER EPHRAIM Father Ephraim has sent us the following email. It illustrates just some of the real issues he has to deal with when carrying out his work in Africa and how the money we have sent can really help in the work he does there.

“I write to express my gratitude for the £250 received from the three churches for my mission work. I do appreciate your thoughtfulness and thank you very much. Our concern here is to reach out to the needy. There are moments I spend days on the road to the clinics and hospitals with patients in the car. I can be called out to anoint the sick person and I end up taking them for medical attention especially those who are stigmatised due to HIV/AIDS. A bit of love puts life back into their bodies. Then the poor cannot afford to buy food. Then there are the orphans and the widowed grandmothers caring for the orphans left by their daughters and sons. It is a cycle of poverty. So any help I receive is for a good cause. God bless and thanks once again.”

The Committee of our parish charity is organising this ‘Social Evening’ in the The Good Shepherd Parish Hall ON SATURDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER AT 7.30PM. The evening will include Games of Bingo, Quizzes, and a Potato Pie or Cheese and Onion Pie Supper. There will also be a raffle and hopefully lots of socialising. (All money raised will go to Action 4 Cambodia)

THE PRICE OF TICKETS IS £10 (including the Bingo Tickets.)  Please bring your own liquid refreshment!!

We are also looking for donors to help us with suitable prizes for the raffle, bingo and the quizzes. These can be given to Mavis Deeney at Good Shepherd, or Sal Southard and Steve Hedderman at St. Alban’s.

Tickets are also available from them or any other member of the committee.

Courage needed to respond to evil with truth, justice and reconciliation

Together, as faith leaders, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and all those affected by the murderous assault that took place today at the Church of Saint-Etienne–du-Rouvray in France.

We are deeply saddened and shocked by the brutal murder of Fr Jacques Hamel.

To commit murder at a place where people gather in peace to worship adds another layer of depravity to the violence that we have witnessed over the past weeks. We pray for the courage to respond to all evil with truth, justice, and reconciliation.
