ACTION 4 CAMBODIA is holding a ‘Lancashire Evening’ in the Good Shepherd Parish Hall on Saturday, 12th September . Doors will open at 7.30. There will be supper, quizzes, music  and a raffle. Tickets are £10 per person, available at the back of church. We hope that it will be as enjoyable and successful as last year’s ‘Italian Night’. If anyone has any raffle prizes please bring them into church or pass them on to the committee members.

We welcome Father Ephraim to St Alban’s this weekend. He was one of Fr Fred Heptonstall’s parishioners. Ephraim join the Mill Hill Missionaries and has made Mission Appeals in the UK for the last couple of years. Soon Ephraim will be returning to Africa. He will face great poverty where he is going. He runs a great group that care for the victims of AIDS. Can I appeal on his behalf to your generosity over the next couple of weeks. We will have ‘The Buckets’ out for his work. Any cheques can be paid to him personally ‘Fr Ephraim Odhiambo’. He is a truly good priest and has been a great friend of Fr Fred & St Alban’s over the years and is so worthy of our love, prayers and support. Thanks everyone.

If you are interested, please phone Sister Isabel Kelly at 01254 53962 or 07960 880 336.

STATEMENT FOR THE CATHOLIC PRESS FROM ARCHBISHOP SMITH

Very many people of all faiths and none will be concerned about a Bill to legalise Assisted Suicide in England and Wales which will be debated in the House of Commons on 11th September 2015.  This private members Bill, introduced by Rob Marris MP, will have a free vote and it is important that people make their views known to their own MP ahead of this extremely important debate.

Information about the issues, together with resources and guidance will be circulated to all parishes in the next week or two.   There are excellent resources on the Bishops Conference website

www.catholicnews.org.uk/assisted-suicide  and the website of the Anscombe Bioethics centre

www.bioethics.org.uk

I strongly urge all Catholics to contact their own MP as soon as possible to express their concern about the dangerous impact which such a Bill would have on the most vulnerable people. MPs do listen to their own constituents. What is needed is more and better palliative care, not assistance with suicide.
