 ‘Action 4 Cambodia’

Letter from Father Greg in Cambodia

Extensive rainfall, badly managed dams and flash floods have contributed to 60,000 Cambodians leaving their homes in pursuit of dry ground, while more than 130 people have drowned and 1.5 million have been affected by floods in 20 of the Kingdom's 24 provinces. Batambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces are most affected. "My brother killed a snake as thick as a man's arm. It swam to our house. We were very happy, because we finally had food to eat." This was a remark of 13 year old girl from a village in Batambang province, where 67.3 % of the provincial population has been affected by flood waters in recent weeks, hundred of hectares of rice fields have been destroyed and food is increasingly short supply.
Some organizations have done the emergency relief.

Jesuit Service tried to give assistance to the flood victims. "The harvest is many, but the laborers are few." This is part of the Gospel reading on the feast of St. Luke, the evangelist, today. We try to help the people who are not reached by the other organizations. Because the need is so immense, we try to limit to a certain target village.
This time our target village is Soksan village, in Banteay Meanchey province. We know very well the situation of the village because we have been working there for long time. The village has been flooded since August. Last week flood was the highest point. The normal life of the people is badly affected. They cannot work or do the farming. Their rice field is in danger of damaged.
Recently there are 194 families. We plan to help each family with 25 kg of rice and 10 small cans of sardines to ease their life.

 The budget is:
194 families x $ 10 (25 kg of rice) x $ 5 (10 small cans of sardines) :   $ 2,910
Transportation to the location: truck, hand tractor, man power     :             $ 90
Total budget:                                                                                      $ 3,000

I wonder if you can help looking for fund for this emergency assistance. Whatever the amount you can help, it doesn't matter. I believe that the little things can make big difference. Small gestures are big good news for them.
I send you some pictures to give the idea of the situation in the village.
Thank you very much for your concern to Cambodia.
All the best regard and God bless.
On the feast of St. Luke, the Evangelist.
Father Greg

Thank God we had the Charity Shop this week  --  we will hopefully try to help Fr Greg with his 9and our) people in Cambodia. Many thanks to all who gave to and worked in the Charity Shop this week.

Father Ephraim, who came into the priesthood through Fr Fred’s work is coming to stay for the inside of a couple of weeks and Fr Thomas Wilberforce will come each weekend to help Joe with the masses. People will ‘man the telephone’ and door during the week. So hopefully Fr Joe will not be run off his feet. Please keep your eye on Fr Joe and weekday mass times  -  these will vary when only Joe is around. A bit like this coming week as Fr Joe is escaping for a few days and who can blame him!! My sister lives next to the 17th tee of the Bateman Bay Golf Course, where she is a member!!… how convenient is that! I must admit I do feel somewhat tired and so looking forward to this trip of a lifetime.. I can’t see the opportunity of a long break ever again, but after 4o years I hope to make the most of it. Many thanks for all your kindness and making it possible. So, Bruce is signing of..G’Day.

Father:  The Lord be with you.      Our New Response:  AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT

The New I Confess                           I confess to almighty God

And to you, my brothers and sisters,

That I have greatly sinned,

In my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done

And in what I have failed to do,

Through my fault, through my fault

Through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, All the angels and saints,

And you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord my God

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,  you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,  in the glory of God the Father. Amen

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks
to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just

Priest: The mystery of faith.

A – We proclaim your death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

PRAYER FOR PEACE after the Our FatherLord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles, Peace I leave you,  my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.  Who live and reign for ever and ever.

All: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

The Lord be with you    Response:    AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT
