To All Parishes in the Dioceses of England and Wales

September 2013

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Jesus Christ

On Tuesday, 24th September, we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham. To

coincide with this Feast, a letter has been sent to all Catholic parishes within England

and Wales for the weekend 21/22 September which aims to deepen awareness of the

presence and contribution of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham

within the life of the Catholic Church in this country.

The Ordinariate is the canonical structure set up in 2011 as the result of a generous

initiative of Pope Benedict XVI. Under this structure, Anglicans who wish to enter the

full communion of the Catholic Church, bringing with them some of the traditions and

beauty of the Anglican heritage in which they were nurtured, may do so.

The letter – available at the back of the church ‐ is written by Monsignor Keith Newton,

who, as Ordinary of the Ordinariate, is responsible for overseeing it in a similar way to

that in which a Bishop oversees a diocese. I warmly encourage you to take home a copy

of Monsignor Newton’s letter and to welcome and support the clergy and faithful of the

Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, both for the part they play in the life

and mission of the Catholic Church in this country and for the particular gifts they bring

which add to our rich diversity.

With every blessing

Vincent Nichols   President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales

We must offer Father Joe are heartiest best wishes: He celebrates a ‘significant birthday’ on Wednesday    I will say no more lest he hits me with a ‘Blarney Stone’.

As the leprechaun says… gud luk.. jo

It’s that time of year for ‘I Believe, Action Cambodia Today’.

Once again we are preparing for our charity shop, which this year will be at 14-16 Lord St. West, from Monday, 14th October until Saturday 19th October. We are now asking you for help in supplying us with goods to sell in the shop. Once again we shall be having a different theme each day and as a result would be pleased to receive small electrical goods, box games and sportswear,   keep-fit equipment , men and women’s hats, the posher  the better , along with fashion accessories such as jewellery and handbags and gardening equipment etc.

We are also looking for clothes, bric-a-brac, shoes and bags, household furnishings, small items of furniture such as coffee tables, cds and dvds, BUT NO VIDEOS AND CASSETTES. If you can help with any of these things please bring them along to either of our churches.

There are also two wardrobes available in the Parish Hall at the Good Shepherd. They are priced at £20 each and could be of particular interest to a student moving into rental accommodation this term.

Bill Iddons, who helps in Church, and also with the Piety Stall, wants to thanks everyone for there prayers, love and kind words since his skirmish with death. He is on the mend and almost behaving himself …  don’t do too much, Bill !!  Great to have you back.

Next Sunday we will have our Cafod Harvest talk at mass and the following week Anne from Mission without Borders wil join us at mass. This is where all the knitting that people do goes!

CANONISATION of Pope John Paul 2nd and Pope John 23rd is likely to take place in the late autumn of this year. Here we have 2 popes in our lifetime about to be declared saints …  a real rarity. Gerry Flynn, one of our parishioners, who runs Enjoy Travel, is hoping to run a trip to Rome for this occasion. This would include flights, transfers, dinner, bed and breakfast in a hotel, coach travel etc… The date has not yet been fixed by Pope Francis, but we think it is imminent. Gerry is going country wide for this trip and the more … the less the price…!! We will give more news, when we have a date, but please have a word with Fr Jude or with Gerry on 504970 to know more. I recall my mum went to Rome for the canonisation of Pius X11 in 1955ish.. she did it on £25 !!! the days!

If you end up in EURO Lands this summer  --  don’t throw away your lose coins / shrapnel  --  please bring them home & pop them into the HCPT Lourdes buckets…  we take loads of small coins at Easter,, all adds up!!! Enjoy the sunshine.

Fr Jim and the Parishioners of Sacred Heart are celebrating their 75th anniversary of the church this Tuesday 24th September. There will be a concelebrated Mass at 7.30 pm.

This is a wonderful occasion for the parish and we send our thoughts and prayers to them

Dear All. The test walk this evening has established a route from Revidge Fold United Reformed Church via Masjid- E Irfan in Eldon Rd, down Shear Brow, noting the ‘Safe Haven Garden and play area’ and Tauheedul’s ‘Vocational Centre’ on route to Altom Street. Continued along Altom Street passing Masjid Tauheedul and then Masjide –E- Raza. From there up Blackburn St to Whalley Street and Masjid – Al- Hidayah. Then up Earl St noting St James Cof E Primary School, St Albans & The Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church and then St James CoE on St James’s Rd. From there back to Revidge Fold United Reformed Church passing St Mary, Roman Catholic College. This route measures 1.8 miles and took about 50 mins to walk including some stops to look at things. The route to Lammack Methodist Church from Revidge Fold United Reformed Church along Lammack Rd is 0.6 miles one way.

We now need photos( digital so you can email them to me ) of each church and Masjid to go in the leaflet and a few words of description for each one. Once I have the photos and text I will be able to make arrangements for a draft leaflet to be made for your approval.

Interfaith week this year is from the 17th to 24th Nov so it would be good if we could launch this Interfaith Trail during that week by holding an inaugural walk and visit to some of the places of worship on the route.

Father:  The Lord be with you.      Our New Response:  AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT

The New I Confess                           I confess to almighty God

And to you, my brothers and sisters,

That I have greatly sinned,

In my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done

And in what I have failed to do,

Through my fault, through my fault

Through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, All the angels and saints,

And you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord my God

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,  you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,  in the glory of God the Father. Amen

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks
to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just

Priest: The mystery of faith.

A – We proclaim your death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

PRAYER FOR PEACE after the Our FatherLord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles, Peace I leave you,  my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.  Who live and reign for ever and ever.

All: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

The Lord be with you    Response:    AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT
