POPE BENEDICT’S RESIGNATION: We have seen in my life time the occasional Pope who has struggled on with ill health to the point where it has been really sad to watch. Bravely and I think wisely he has chosen to retire because of failing health for the good of the church. We received from the diocese a statement that explains ‘what happens next’. ‘Following Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation coming into effect at 8 pm on Thursday 28th February, the office of the Roman Pontiff (the Pope) will become vacant and a new Bishop of Rome  will need to be elected. (when you are elected Pope you also become the bishop of the Diocese of Rome) The current Holy Father will at that point cease to be the Bishop of Rome and will no longer hold the title of Pope and will return to the use of his baptismal name, together with the customary mode of address pertaining to a Cardinal Bishop, in all formal modes of address. He has now stated that he will enter a very quiet monastery in the Vatican City.
During the period of the vacancy in the office of Roman Pontiff, the governance of the Church will be entrusted to the College of Cardinals solely for the dispatch of ordinary business and of matters which cannot be postponed, and for the preparation of everything necessary for the election of a new Pope. The College of Cardinals cannot, however exercise any power or jurisdiction which is proper to that office of the Roman Pontiff. The Cardinal Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, currently Cardinal Tarciscio Bertone, has the duty of safeguarding and administering the goods and temporal rights of the Holy See. So, the white smoke from the Sistine Chapel will not appear until March at the earliest. Please do offer a Prayer Each Day for the College of Cardinals to ask them to discover the ‘voice of the Holy Spirit’ amid all the other ‘voices’ that will be buzzing about the Halls of St Peter’s.
PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT Dearest Holy Spirit, source of God’s life, enter deeply into the minds and hearts of Cardinals of your Church. Guide them with the wisdom of God and free them from earthly concerns. Let the new Pope be a light to inspire mission and zeal among your Church and offer to your world a vision of hope and challenge. Your Son Jesus prayed that you, the Holy Spirit, will lead your Church to the fullest of the truth. We add our prayers for you through Christ our Lord. Amen.

This week we received a belated Christmas and New Year message from Fr. Greg in Cambodia.
Dear people of the parish of St. Alban and Good Shepherd and all supporters of ‘I Believe, Action Cambodia Today.
God so loved the world that He gave his only Son.......” (John 3. 16).
This is the good news for us. God becomes human-a baby, poor and helpless. Our God is Emmanuel-God is with us-so close to us. We learn from the Infant Jesus the solidarity of God with us humans. We learn from Him the message of solidarity with the poor and vulnerable.
In this occasion of this Christmas season I would like to express my gratitude to all of you for showing your love and generosity through the solidarity with the poor and vulnerable people of Cambodia. Your assistance, partnership and cooperation serve as an encouragement for Jesuit Service-Cambodia to continue to do its mission, that is to accompany and work with disadvantaged communities in upholding the rights, the welfare and the dignity of the poor by implementing programmes that alleviate poverty, improve education, and establish just relations in Cambodian society.
I wish you a happy new year 2013. I would like to greet you in the Cambodian way by wishing you
All the best regards and God bless. Father Greg.

Father: The Lord be with you.      Our New Response: AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT
The New I Confess                           I confess to almighty God
And to you, my brothers and sisters,
That I have greatly sinned,
In my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done
And in what I have failed to do,
Through my fault, through my fault
Through my most grievous fault.
Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, All the angels and saints,
And you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord my God
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believein one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.
Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks
to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just
Priest: The mystery of faith.

A – We proclaim your death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

PRAYER FOR PEACE after the Our FatherLord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles, Peace I leave you,  my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.  Who live and reign for ever and ever.
All: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.
The Lord be with you    Response:    AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT
