CONFESSIONS  Saturday 11  -  12

Christmas is a great Season of Light. It tells us of the darkness which the Son of God comes to overcome. It is why we celebrate the feast in the depth of winter, during the long cold winter night. John the Baptist described himself as a ‘witness to the light’ : and we in our turn are asked to do likewise. The scene in the manger is ‘a baby of hope’ for us and all mankind. The scriptures tell us that the cleverest, the richest and in the shepherds ( the poorest 0 all came to the manger. Yes, Christmas and Jesus was for everyone in the world. We celebrate Christmas for ‘a season’ not a day…..  The world may begin Christmas back in September, but we begin on Tuesday and allow it run until the Feast of the Presentation !! The lights that fill the churches and trees are a reminder to us all that we too are Jesus’ “Light of the World” in our present day. Let our faith  -  hope  -  and love fill our lives. May we radiate his joy and peace. Where ever we celebrate this feast, I pray that the love and joy of the Christ Child will fill your heart, home and table this Christmastime.

So, from myself, Fr Joe and Fr Fred; let the blessing of the Good Lord be with you and yours always.

We are very sadly soon coming to an end of an era. Fr. Fred has been helping at St Alban’s for some 10 years and as an ‘old boy’ of the parish has a lifetime’s presence here and at St Peter’s in Mill Hill. His superiors in the Order, also called Mill Hill, have asked him to return to his order to their home in Freshfields at Formby. This isn’t the first time they have put this to him! He has resisted them for some time. Now they are insisting and Fr Fred will retire there in January. I am going to miss Fr Fred hugely. As well as his wit, help, and personal presence, I will miss his example of prayer. If anyone has taught me to ‘pray’… it is Fr Fred. Fred will leave on or around January 3rd/4th. He is a man of ‘no fuss’… and would find any ‘special Do’ an absolute trial. So, please good people in your own personal way, share your own thanks and love to Fr Fred personally. On Tuesday 1st January we always have a lovely mass on the Feast of the Mother of God at midday. This mass we will offer for Fr Fred and we will make it one of thankfulness and gratitude for all he has done for God’s people in Blackburn as well as Africa.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING……….. well it is pretty close now!!

Christmas Bauble / Memory Tree  In Our Lady’s Chapel: Each year we place a Memory Tree here :  Place a special bauble on the tree, attach it to one of the prayer cards with a name & maybe a wee prayer :  Those in heaven and we on earth celebrate the Lord’s birth together.

I had planned a YOUCAT Session for Sat: 29th… I think we will cancel this one… we will have Session 3 , just the once on the following Saturday at Good Shepherd on Saturday January 5th at 10 am.

Our Year of Faith, with our helpful guide & ‘Catechism’ the “YOUCAT”  please keep reading it. The Catechism may be helpful to people who are not Roman Catholic and might be interested in learning more: along with the thought that they may wish to become a full catholic themselves: this would take extra instruction, but if there is anyone who wishes to take this further  -  then do please have a word with Fr Jude.

A couple was Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve and the whole place was heaving, packed with other last minute shoppers.

Walking through the shopping centre the surprised wife looked up from a window display and noticed her husband was nowhere to be seen. She knew they had lots still to do and she became very upset.

She rummaged in her handbag and found her mobile phoned then used it to call her husband to ask him where he was.

The husband in a calm voice replied: "Darling, you remember the jewellery shop we went into five years ago, where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we could not afford and I told you that one day I would get it for you...?"

His wife's eyes filled with tears of emotion, she began to cry softly and stifling a sob she whispered:"Yes, I remember that jewellery shop...".

"Well," he said, "I'm in the pub next to it!"

                                                                                                NEW REPONSES AT MASS

Father:  The Lord be with you.      Our New Response:  AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT

The New I Confess                           I confess to almighty God

And to you, my brothers and sisters,

That I have greatly sinned,

In my thoughts and in my words, In what I have done

And in what I have failed to do,

Through my fault, through my fault

Through my most grievous fault.

Therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, All the angels and saints,

And you, my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord my God

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,  you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,  in the glory of God the Father. Amen

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks
to the Lord our God.
People: It is right and just

Priest: The mystery of faith.

A – We proclaim your death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

PRAYER FOR PEACE after the Our FatherLord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles, Peace I leave you,  my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.  Who live and reign for ever and ever.

All: Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

The Lord be with you    Response:    AND WITH YOUR SPIRIT
