The Gospel story of the bringing back to life of Lazarus is another story with many ways of leading us in prayer to the Lord. It contains the shortest verse in the Gospels  -  2 words  -  “Jesus wept”. Showing the deep humanity of Jesus. The Lord took the 2 sisters on a journey of faith which eventually led to the miracle for Lazarus. “Who am I” he asked them? And amid their pain & grief they made their act of faith in him as the Messiah. It was after this that the miracle took place.

People often ‘tell’ God that if something good happens they will believe !!  I don’t think God works this way. The sisters ‘dug deep’ into their knowledge and love for Jesus and put their trust in him  - then and only then did Jesus go and work the miracle.

The final powerful line which has always touched me has Jesus saying “Unbind him, let him go free”. I have often seen that for many os us there are all sorts of things that ‘BIND’ us up in life  - and not for the better. Our bad habits / repetitive weaknesses / addictions in whatever shape or form they may be / and many other thing ‘BIND’ us in life and it can be so hard to ‘FREE’ our selves from them. Today’s story isn’t just for Lazarus, Martha & Mary; it is for all of us  -  Lord, unbind and free us.
